LUCANIA. Herakleia. Circa 281-278 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.76 g, 7 h). Head of Athena facing three-quarters to right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with a two-tailed Skylla on the bowl and necklace, and with her hair flowing loose; to left, monogram of HPA. Rev. [ՒHPAK]ΛEIΩN Herakles standing facing, leaning with his right hand on club set on ground and holding bow and lion skin in his left; to left, Nike flying right to crown him; in field to right, ΦΙΛΩ. Basel 112 (this coin). Jameson 246 (this coin). HN Italy 1390. Van Keuren 92 (same dies). An attractive, beautifully toned and very well pedigreed coin. Good very fine.
